Special present - Barbee Winn gets birthday wish, shoots hog at 90 When her son Tom asked Barbee Winn of Boerne what she would like for her 90th birthday present, her answer caught him off guard. “I told him I would like to go to the Pig Farm and shoot a hog,” she said. The Pig Farm, 150 acres along the Atascosa River, was named for its abundance of wild pigs. But Barbee had never shot a feral hog, although she had shot some javelina during her many years of hunting. Her son took her to the ranch with her 92-year-old fiancé, and using an electric golf cart for a blind, they set up beneath one of the ladder blinds. “This hog stuck his head out of the brush a few times but would go back in,” she said. “Finally after about 20 minutes he came out and started eating corn under the feeder at about 130 yards. Then I shot him (using the dash of the cart for a rest), and that’s pretty much it.” Her son dressed the 250-pound hog. “We didn’t waste any of it,” Barbee said. “We gave most of it to the ranch hands; they were thrilled to get it.” The next birthday present will take place on her son’s 65th birthday in November, when the two nonagenarians tie the knot. “Yes, we’re getting married that day,” she said. “We figured we might as well spend the rest of the time we have together.”
