When the big buck turned 6 1/2 years old, I decided that I would seriously pursue "Ear and a Half" every extra minute I could spend.

It took me about 30 hours stretched out over 4 weeks before we felt like we had him patterned out. Then things changed and he completely left the area we felt like he was living in.

Saturday, November 3 was my lucky night. My 9 year old grandson, Harrison Murski came up to me just before we were leaving to do our evening hunt. He said, "Granddad, I feel lucky tonight. I feel like I am your good luck charm." That sounded good to me and I invited him to go with me. That pretty much sounded the bell for Ear and a Half's demise.

We got into blind #1 about 5 PM. I had hunted #1 several times previously without ever seeing him. We had put out Acorn Rage and Buck Bran in six different locations around the food plot and Remington corn feeder that we hoped would give us a glimpse of him. At 6 PM the corn feeder went off.

There were a few does and fawns in the food plot. At 6:10 a good, mature buck came out around the Acorn Rage pile. Then came another and another and then a really big deer. Harrison said "Daddy Ray, that's HIM." I put the binocs on him and Harrison was right on.

We had the video camera going and Harrison and I were trying to keep each other calm. He kept telling me, "Daddy Ray, it only takes one shot." We waited and waited until the shot was right. My Remington BDL 7 Mag fired the 175 grain core-lokt round and it was all over but the yelling, shouting, shaking, and crying. I have to admit it was an unbelievable feeling I have never experienced.

Final score that night was 220 2/8 B&C. He had about 10 inches broken off. I'll bet they grow back by the time he gets on the wall.
