How does a blind man hunt?
With some help from his friends, a lot of skill and, occasionally, a laser site.
Writer Bill Miller, a regular contributor to Lone Star Outdoor News, last year wrote about Stanley McGowen, a history professor from Weatherford, who regularly hunts, despite losing his eyesight in the crash of his private plane in 1990.
Since then, however, McGowen successfully petitioned the Texas Legislature to let blind hunters attach laser sights to their weapons.
Legislative action was needed to create an exemption for the blind because Texas law prevents hunters from targeting game with projected beams of light.
Bill recently participated in a Fort Worth Star-Telegram video production that shows McGowen getting ready to use laser sites on whitetails, hogs and African plains game.
