Photo by Lisa LeVrier The four-angler team finished the day with 72 pounds, 4 ounces. Terry Scroggins’ team is in second place with 70 pounds, 4 ounces, opening a sizable gap between them and Charlie Hartley’s team total of 59 pounds 4 ounces. Wolak wouldn’t give up the goods on the lures or techniques used, but Mark Menendez, whose team is the bottom half of the standings, said the fish were really hitting a craw. As the afternoon anglers came in, the teams were busy comparing notes, while the autograph seekers waited. The teams have a time limit to make their decisions, but accommodated the crowd once their time ran out. One autograph seeker had more than 30 autographs on her shirt, and said she had a visor that most of the Women’s Bassmaster anglers signed last week in Lewisville. The day’s big bass was landed by team captain Bobby Lane, fishing with teammate Byron Velvick of Del Rio. The fish weighed 11 pounds, 12 ounces, and Lane also released a 9-pound, 4-ounce largemouth in the afternoon session. As for the location and lure, Lane and Velvick stayed silent. Mike Iaconelli also brought in an 8-pound, 12-ounce fish in the afternoon session. The teams head out again Saturday morning on Lake Fork with the first two members of each team leaving the dock at 7 a.m. |
